HFA is the premier music publisher agent for mechanical licensing in the United States, and offers publishers and licensees a single source for the majority of their mechanical licensing needs. A mechanical license grants the rights to reproduce and distribute copyrighted musical compositions (songs), including uses on CDs, records, tapes, and certain digital configurations. By affiliating with HFA, publishers have access to a range of licensing, collection, distribution, royalty compliance and legal services to assist them in administrating their catalog. Due to the large number of affiliate publishers, licensees are often able to complete the majority of their mechanical licensing through HFA.

HFA issues mechanical licenses for products manufactured and distributed in the U.S. (including territories and possessions) only. Our mechanical licenses are only available to U.S. manufacturers or importers with a U.S. address. However, HFA also provides collection and monitoring services to its publisher clients for music distributed and sold in over 90 territories around the world through reciprocal agreements with mechanical rights organizations in those territories.
